April 2018 : The CJFCB supports youth in their post-secondary goals!

Every year, the Youth Council awards a $ 1,000 scholarship to a student from the B.C. Conseil Scolaire Francophone (CSF) with the aim of supporting youth in their post-secondary goals. Applications begin on Monday, April 16th!

A selection process based on diverse criteria All grade 12 students who are members of the Youth Council are eligible. In addition to being a graduate of the CSF, candidates must demonstrate how they have distinguished themselves throughout their high school careers through their community and academic involvement, peer inclusion and leadership, in order to further promote youth participation in their schools and broader communities. The Youth Council will also take into account whether the candidate embodies the values of the Youth Council (youth leadership, inclusion, integrity) and whether they have modeled exemplary behavior during CJFCB events.

Evaluations by the board of directors After receiving all applications, the application files will be sent to the Youth Council’s board of directors for an evaluation. The Youth Council employees will equally provide a recommendation. Each application will be examined by the board of directors, followed by a majority vote for the chosen candidate. “A beautiful aspect of the CJFCB is the chance to meet and work with incredible youth who come from all over the province. It is important for us to recognize those who have distinguished themselves and embodied the values of the Youth Council. It is a way for us to say thank you, keep up the good work and good luck with this new adventure!”- Yann Lacoste, president of the Youth Council.

Recipient 2017 Alec Rukundo, who graduated from l’école des Pionniers-de-Maillardville in Port Coquitlam, was the 2017 recipient of this scholarship. He distinguished himself throughout his high school career through his participation in numerous social, sporting and community events of the Youth Council (such as Youth Parliament, Francophone Youth Games…), as well as through his welcoming attitude towards newcomers and his help in preparing food for homeless individuals with the organization La Boussole.
