School and community settings: an essential collaboration!
For over 35 years, the CJFCB has been offering French-speaking youth extracurricular activities that let them have fun, build connections, expand their community, develop their skills, and get involved, all in French!
We believe that collaboration between schools and the community is essential to help youth reach their full potential in French and strengthen their sense of belonging within the community. Together, schools and the CJFCB can further their respective (and complementary) missions!
As such, we are proud to offer teachers and their students a range of opportunities that build bridges between our work and yours. Discover them below!
Linguistic security resources for you and your students
Linguistic insecurity is a widespread feeling among youth who grow up in a linguistic minority setting, but it often goes unnoticed, which is why it's so important to talk about it together. The CJFCB has been a leader in this domain since 2019, developing expertise by and for youth in close collaboration with Dr. Suzanne Robillard and Dr. Marie-Eve Bouchard—who are recognized in the field—as well as with teaching staff.

To build bridges between our missions, the CJFCB can come to your classroom. We offer:

School trips
While most of our events are offered to youth on an individual basis, we also offer opportunities for classes!
- Camps Aventure, for Grade 8 CSF students: 2 days of activities at an outdoor camp to help your students develop leadership skills and have fun in French! Check with your school directly to learn more.
- French for the Future Vancouver Local Forum, for Grades 9 to 12 classes in Greater Vancouver, in a French immersion program or at a CSF school: a full day of activities in French (various workshops, the opportunity to meet French-speaking community organizations, a cultural performance, and more)! BC – Québec Exchange Program, for French immersion students
Since 2018, the Ministry of Education and Child Care of British Columbia has entrusted the CJFCB with managing the student exchange program between British Columbia and Québec—a linguistically and culturally immersive experience.
Each year, this program allows about a dozen Grade 10 or 11 students from across the province to be paired with a student from Québec. The exchange begins in the fall, when the Québec student travels to B.C. to live with their partner's family for two months. It continues in the winter, when it's the B.C. student's turn to live in Québec with their partner, also for two months.
Are you a French immersion teacher and want to offer this unique experience to your students? Take the first step! Register your school for the program and designate a Sponsor Teacher! Once school registration is complete, interested Grade 9 or 10 students can submit their application to their Sponsor Teacher to take part in the exchange the following year.
Support for individual or group projects with the Connecte program
Do you have one or more students interested in starting a project in their school or community? The Connecte program is for them!
This program allows one or more students to bring their dream project to life, with personalized support, project management resources, and even financial contributions from the CJFCB. It's a chance for your students to start a student club, initiate and lead school field trips, and much more! Sometimes, entire classes even carry out a project together.
Resources to support your students' transition to post-secondary education
Would you like to support your students through their transition to post-secondary education? CJFCB has created a comprehensive website bringing together a wealth of information to help, including:
