May 2018: The 26th edition of the British Columbia Francophone Youth Games will be in Kelowna!

This year, école l’Anse-au-Sable in Kelowna will be hosting the British Columbia Francophone Youth Games, a provincial event organized by the CJFCB. Nearly 130 participants between the ages of 14 and 18, about twenty volunteers and a dozen workshop leaders will join together from May 18th to 21st, 2018.

The program Six workshops centered on arts, sports and science will be led by professionals from each discipline. The Youth Council, inspired by the beauty of Kelowna, has incorporated a new outdoor component and a new environmental science component within the event. The outdoor component will focus on learning about environmental awareness over the course of several hikes near Okanagan Lake and central Kelowna. The science component will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the field of environmental sciences through a variety of activities related to the nature of the Okanagan region. Social evenings will be organized to allow young people to socialize in French and get to know other Francophones and Francophiles from all over the province.

A 26th edition focused on the environment Several initiatives have been set up for this 26th edition of the JFCB to raise awareness and reduce our impact on the environment. To highlight a few examples, participants will have reusable lunch boxes offered by the CJFCB as well as organic cotton t-shirts made in Quebec. In order to reduce waste during the event, the participant's guide will be available electronically and participants will be required to bring their own reusable water bottles. Participants, as well as every other member involved in this event will be involved in the effort to have an environmental approach!
